About Lily flower (Lilium L.) A plant of the Lily family (Liliaceae). There are about 80 species in the genus. There are 9 species in Europe, 20 in North America and 49 in Asia. In the Soviet Union (Caucasus, Siberia, Far East), 18 species grow naturally. In our forests we have the forest lily (L. martagon L.) and the red lily (L. bulbiterum L.), which is a mature species. The bulb of the lily is made up of fluffy, multi-coloured scales (white in the case of the Wilmot lily, lemon yellow in the case of the woodland lily, dark purple in the case of the royal lily, and henry lily). The bulbs are between 2 cm and 20 cm in diameter.
